GARETH SOUTHGATE
Gareth Southgate: How to be an emotionally intelligent leader
In the first of a series of special EURO 2020 episodes, we are joined by Gareth Southgate, the current England manager. Gareth took up the position in November 2016 and oversaw the Three Lions’ World Cup qualification campaign, leading England to Russia 2018 where they made the semi-finals. Gareth gained 57 international caps as a player taking part in 4 major tournaments.
On the domestic front, after six years and almost 200 appearances for Villa, Gareth joined Middlesbrough where, as captain, he led the side to their first major trophy with the League Cup in 2004.
After taking time out to travel, visit and observe training and coaching methods at a number of different clubs in Europe following his departure from Boro, Gareth had a 18-month spell with the FA as head of elite development.
